FORMAT
KLRN’s City Showdown is a digital series that takes place mostly on the dedicated web page klrn.org/ciyshowdown. There, each artist has a video featuring an interview of them discussing themselves and their music followed by their music video. Additionally, each artist will have a dedicated blog post on KLRN’s site with their bio, links to social media, and information about each council district.
Throughout the duration of the series (Monday, November 18 – Sunday, December 8), all ten contestants will earn points from online users. Viewers can visit klrn.org/cityshowdown to vote for their favorites. up to ten times (10x) per week. The voting period will begin each Monday at 12:00AM and will reset each Sunday at 11:59PM.
VOTING
Over the course of the series, online viewers will vote for their favorite entries by visiting KLRN’s webpage klrn.org/CityShowdown.
On the webpage, voters will be asked to provide two pieces of information:
- Which artist/district they are voting for
- Their zip code
The KLRN City Showdown webpage will feature a map of San Antonio for reference along with a link to the official City of San Antonio website where users can find their City Council district by inputting their address.
Viewers can cast their votes for whichever district they’d like – no matter where they live. For purposes of a fair competition, the website will only allow one IP address to vote a maximum of 10 times per week. Online viewers are encouraged to participate, however fraudulent or spam voting will not be tolerated.
JURY VOTING
In addition to the online vote, a City Showdown jury will also vote on the contestants, ranking each from their most favorite to least favorite. The jury is comprised of community members who span a range of ages, backgrounds, and tastes. The name and title of each juror can be found on the City Showdown webpage.
Contestants will each receive points based on how the jury ranked them, to be awarded during the Results episode. Please note that individual jurors’ scores will not be revealed.
RESULTS PRESENTATION
After public voting closes on Sunday, December 8 at 11:59PM, KLRN will calculate total votes received from the online public.
The presentation of results will be released soon after in the form of a video posted to KLRN’s YouTube channel and on the City Showdown website.
KLRN will first reveal how the jury ranked each of the contestants. From there, the results of the online vote will be revealed one-by-one, beginning with the artist in 10th place and working up.
The winner of City Showdown will be determined by the artist or band that receives the highest combined score from the jury vote AND online vote from the public.
The winner of City Showdown will receive a $250 H-E-B gift card and bragging rights for the year.
CONTESTANTS
Artists for Season 2 were identified through a combination of social media research and exploring the City of San Antonio’s Department of Arts & Culture Artist Registry. While efforts were made to feature artists who are from each district, the reality is that some artists live in a different district than the one they represent. Some artists live on or near a border between districts; others were selected for a connection they have to a district (i.e., living on the north side but often playing shows downtown). KLRN reserves the right to assign contestants and districts as needed for purposes of the show. Because of this, we refer to all the artists as “representing” a district to avoid any confusion.
